All About Frog Egg

White plastic Easter Eggs. Just add a frog embryo with a permanent marker.
Design Your Own Easter Eggs

To practice counting, start with a bucket of ping pong balls. Us a permanent marker and add black dots. These become frog eggs. Then cut two of the sections off egg cartons leaving ten sections in each. Your child then fills the egg carton sections and counts by 10's to see how many frog eggs.
Ping Pongs are inexpensive and are great math manipulatives.

 A Frog's New Home

On the floor of our terrarium is astroturf carpet which we purchased as "reptile carpeting" at the pet store. We added small plastic plants and also a large rock and plant aquarium decoration, in order to give our tree frog something interesting to climb on. We put in a plastic dish of water which is shaped somewhat like a rock in the middle of the terrarium. Also covering the middle section of the terrarium is moss, which most frogs love as it retains moisture and increases the humidity in their home. One one side of the terrarium is a little plastic hut which will serve as a cave for our frog to hide in if he desires.

Underneath one side of the terrarium is a heating element. This provides a little warmth for our cold-blooded frog. He can choose to be over the heated section, or the non-heated section, depending upon what he needs at that moment. The heating element came in a "tree frog kit" that we purchased at the pet store.

Compile the activities you have done in a lapbook where your child can review what they have learned while providing an artistic record for sharing for years to come. My friend, Jimmie, created this Water Lapbook. Ideas from this lapbook would easily be adapted to a Frog Lapbook. In a watery world, where you would you find frogs? What kinds of frogs would you find in each habitat?

Frog Lapbooks

Collect representative poems, drawings and facts to serve a portfolio of what you have learned while studying frogs. Glue them into a file folder in an attractive way. Share your folder with family and friends. That is the way to make a unique Frog Study Lapbook to treasure.

Frog Lapbooks
Today we finished up our frog unit study with a frog lapbook. They were really fun to make and we learned some really interesting things.
Filled with Joy: Frog Lapbook
Nathan has always had a fascination with frogs. He will sit on his bed searching through dozens of frog books for a new fact to learn about them. Each visit to the zoo requires at stop to purchase a frog...

CREATE A POND
You will need: Ziploc quart size freezer bags, cornstarch, red, blue, yellow and green food coloring, plastic grass, green craft foam, plastic frogs & wide tape.
Directions: Pour one-third cup of cornstarch into the bag. Add one cup of water. Add one drop of blue coloring, two drops each of red, yellow, and greed food coloring, a few pieces of plastic grass, the lily pad made from the green craft foam & the toy frog. Seal the bag and reinforce with the tape. Gently knead the mixture. Now each student has his/her very own pond.

BOOKS

"Spring is here, and along with it a flurry of activity for nature-minded kids to observe! An energetic frog takes us on a tour of the small, small pond, mischievously interrupting the other animals at work and play. Denise Fleming's inviting introduction to nature and the seasons was named a Caldecott Honor Book for its glorious illustrations, which she created as handmade paper by pouring colored cotton pulp through hand-cut stencils. Bold animal forms come to life against the vibrant colors of every season, with the constant presence of the bright green frog adding humor and interest for very young children."--Scholastic
